Making Sense of Electric Cars Without the Jargon

I recently joined Liz Allan on the Electric Evolution Podcast to talk about something I care deeply about: helping people feel more confident when it comes to automotive, includind electric vehicles.

If there is one thing I have learned over the years, it is that EVs themselves are not the problem. The way we talk about them often is. And, the more we understand them, the more we can develop and innovate them, creating something even more accessible and vital than before.

Real Questions People Actually Have

When most people start thinking about electric cars, they are not looking to memorise acronyms or charging equations. They want answers to simple, everyday questions.

  • Can I charge it at home overnight?

  • What actually happens on a longer journey?

  • Will it fit into my routine without becoming a hassle?

That is what we talked about on the podcast. It is not about stripping information back too far. It is about focusing on what people genuinely need to know to feel comfortable. For example, what home charging looks like in real life or what to expect when stopping to charge on a motorway services, rather than leading with technical specifications.

Putting People First

Every EV decision is personal. It might be about school runs, commuting, visiting family or simply wanting a car that feels easy to live with.

When conversations focus on real life use instead of ideal scenarios, people start to relax. They stop worrying about whether they are missing something and begin to see how an electric car could fit into their own lives.

That shift in confidence is important. It changes EVs from something that feels complicated into something that feels manageable.

My Journey

Before I moved into the automotive and EV space, I was a secondary school teacher. That experience still shapes how I approach my work today.

In the classroom, the aim was never to show how much I knew. It was about helping someone understand something new and feel confident enough to use it. The same approach applies here.

Whether I am talking about charging speeds or vehicle choice, the goal is always clarity, not complexity.

Why Product Marketing Matters

Product marketing is not about hype or sales messages. For me, it is about:

  • Understanding the real questions people are asking

  • Explaining technology in a way that relates to everyday life

  • Building trust in a fast changing market

If someone finishes reading or listening and thinks, “that actually makes sense now”, then the work has done what it should.

“If you don't understand who your product is for, how are you designing a good product? Everything starts with knowing your audience.” - Me

The EV world is moving quickly and clear, people focused communication matters more than ever. My aim is simple: to help people feel informed, reassured and confident about electric vehicles, without the noise.
